Eine dünne Feder zu verbiegen ist einfach. Sie zu verbiegen und dabei die Tinte fließen zu lassen, ist das eigentliche Problem – es ist dasselbe Problem, das Besitzer einer Pilot FA dazu bringt, Ersatz-Tintenleiter für einen 276-Euro-Stift zu kaufen.
Die Toleranz, auf die es ankommt, ist dort, wo der Tintenkanal auf den Flexpunkt trifft. Zwei der Hersteller, mit denen wir zusammengearbeitet haben, konnten dies nicht konstant einhalten. Der dritte konnte es.
Wir entwerfen die Feder. Sie halten die Toleranz ein. Diese Arbeitsteilung ist der Grund, warum es zwei Jahre statt zwei Monate gedauert hat.
Flexfedern werden mit Adjektiven verkauft — weich, federnd, vintage. Keines davon sagt Ihnen das Einzige, was Sie nach vierzig Minuten Schreiben tatsächlich spüren: wie fest Sie aufdrücken müssen.
Die Zinken exakt 1 mm auseinandergedrückt. 277,5 g. Kaufen Sie eine und messen Sie selbst nach.

Unser Wert wurde im Haus gemessen und fotografiert. Die Vergleichswerte stammen aus veröffentlichten Messungen nach derselben Methode — Zinken auf 1 mm gespreizt, Kraft von der Waage abgelesen.
Eine Pilot-Goldfeder braucht rund 44 % mehr Kraft als unsere Stahlfeder. Eine 18K-Montblanc rund 30 % mehr.
Gold ist das weichere Metall, aber über die Flexibilität entscheidet nicht das Metall, sondern die Geometrie: die Länge der Zinken, wie weit die Schultern zurückgeschnitten sind, wie dünn der Stahl am Biegepunkt ist. Diese drei Dinge richtig hinzubekommen — dafür waren die zwei Jahre und die drei Hersteller da.

Mit ihr sollten fast alle anfangen. Sie flext, wenn Sie es wollen, und benimmt sich, wenn nicht — auf dem Papier, das ohnehin auf Ihrem Schreibtisch liegt.
Die Gold Flex ist in geübten Händen die bessere Feder und in ungeübten die falsche. Genau diese eine Entscheidung, falsch herum getroffen, steckt hinter fast jeder enttäuschten Bewertung, die wir je bekommen haben — und uns ist der entgangene Aufpreis lieber als eine weitere davon.
Echtzeit, nicht beschleunigt. 0,4 mm beim Aufstrich, 2,0 mm beim Abstrich – und dafür sind 277,5 g Druck erforderlich. Weicher als die massiven Goldfedern, mit denen sie normalerweise verglichen wird.
Schauen Sie sich die Probe genau an. Es wird lediglich etwas mehr Druck auf die Großbuchstaben ausgeübt – kein spezieller Griff, kein Unterlegeblatt, kein besonderes Papier.
Das ist es, was Ihnen die Federbiegung ermöglicht. Die Feder biegt sich, wenn Sie darauf drücken, und kehrt sofort zum Schreiben einer Einkaufsliste zurück, wenn Sie es nicht tun, auf was auch immer bereits auf Ihrem Schreibtisch liegt.
Die Reihe der Schlaufen ist der einzige Teil, der Übung erfordert. Der Rest ist einfach Ihre Handschrift, nur lauter.
